Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder Review

I bought Maybelline's Dream Wonder Powder a month or two after it first came out but I never really used it because it just never really appealed to me. So why did I buy it? Because its makeup and I had money. I know. I have a problem.

above: sexy product shot, I must admit I like the
packaging // left: there are two different
"compartments", the first one holds the product
// right: the second compartment, when you lift
the layer holding the powder, you get a mirror
(not shown) and a place to keep the sponge
applicator (comes included)

First off, I really do like the packaging. Its similar to the product this seemed to replace in Maybelline's Dream line, the Dream Matte powder. I like the rose gold detailing and the fact it has two separate compartments and a mirror included. I also like that it has a sponge applicator, although I don't use it anymore because it smells like rubber and doesn't work that well for blending the product.

I bought it in the shade Classic Ivory 20, which is the third lightest shade. That's the first thing I will mention that's a little unsettling about this product. I'm not at all fair or light skinned, I'd say I'm a solid light medium with yellow undertones, and I've never used a product with the word 'ivory' in the shade name. And despite the deceiving shade name, its still a shade too dark for me. The color you see in the pan is lighter than the shade you actually get once applied. I'd say for coverage it provide a solid light coverage, on the verge of medium--which is why finding your shade is so important, since the color will be obvious.

face. Notice it looks darker than my natural skin color
shown above. Also notice the decent amount of coverage
it gives. I applied the powder with Sonia Kashuk #25

In the second photo above I applied the Dream Powder with a kabuki brush. I find you get the best amount of coverage by sort of patting the powder on first, concentrating on redness or specific areas you want the most coverage and then lightly spreading it to the rest of the face. I like that this product doesn't highlight dry patches, which I have around the nose area and mouth, but as for settling in fine line I don't really know, I don't have any.

I'm kind of on the fence on this. I have oily skin and I don't find it doing anything to prevent the oiliness or to highlight it. It sort of just sits on top of the skin, and the color doesn't match my neck, which might be my fault for picking the wrong shade but in my defense I never thought I'd have to use the second lightest shade.

I think this product is best for people with pretty normal skin or combination/oily who have pretty clear skin (this powder covers blemishes pretty well but you do need to build up the product, it doesn't cake, but so much product isn't good for acne).

I do want to try this product in the future, maybe I'll get a little darker this summer and use this up, so I can buy the lighter shade. This isn't a product I recommend or completely dissuade you from buying, its more of a hit or miss so it might work for you a lot better or a lot worse than it did for me.  --M. ♥
